Bordentown Mayor James Lynch still remembers the National Football League legend's statement to this day.
Hidden Treasures Calendar
Growing up watching the Little Shred defense during his two years on the Bordentown Military Institute (BMI) football team, Lynch became known to the NFL Hall of Famer as a big man on the field as well.
Lynch's father, James Lynch (Sr.), took Little out to dinner a lot, and the family fell in love with the family-oriented and caring person that Little was.
His attitude, enthusiasm and work ethic to succeed on the field and succeed in life were inspiring to see developed at the university and professional levels.
"This is how I envision Bordentown to be," Lynch said. “Good residents and hard workers work together to help everyone live a good life in a great city. Floyd (Pikku) fits this position like a glove."

On New Year's Day, many football fans and people in the province mourned the death of Litle, who died at the age of 78.
Little battled stage 2 neuroendocrine tumor cancer, and announced in November that she had entered hospice care.
"It felt like I lost my dad again," Lynch said after hearing the news of Little's death. "He was a true professional and a caring person. He always made athletes and people feel good."
Before Little became a star player on the Syracuse University football team and had a nine-season Hall of Fame career with the Denver Broncos, he captured the hearts of the Bordentown community every Saturday afternoon in 1961-62 as a junior.

Lynch remembers going to every game during those two seasons to watch Little score "five to six touchdowns" in each contest and lead BMI to back-to-back undefeated seasons at 8-0. No. 77 Little retired in 1963, according to BMI, when he graduated from the institute as president of his class.
He was honored at City Hall for being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
Lynch remembers Little telling him how much BMI and the Bordentown community meant to him when he returned to the area for the ceremony in 2010.
In his nine NFL seasons, Little rushed for 6,323 yards and 43 touchdowns. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and retired in 1975 as the seventh leading scorer in league history at the time.

Little was a three-time All-American at Syracuse, amassing 2,704 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns during his college career. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
President-elect Joe Biden and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell honored Little in statements on Jan. 2.
Biden, who attended law school at Syracuse while Little was there, called the Hall of Famer "a good man" and said in a news release that he will miss his dear friend.
"Floyd Little and I were students at Syracuse University," Biden said. - In those years, I got to know Floyd as the man behind the number. He was full of character, decency and honesty. He always had the grace to spend time with fans—parents and grandparents who wanted to introduce their children and grandchildren to a genuine role model.

Goodell spoke of the opportunity he had to know Litt and to see his impact on others.
"Floyd Little wasn't just a Hall of Fame coach, he was a Hall of Fame person. Faith, family and football were the cornerstones of his life," Goodell said.
In honor of Little and his impact on the Bordentown community, Lynch ordered all flags in the city of Bordentown to be flown at half-staff for 30 days.
Little is from New Haven, Connecticut. He is survived by his wife, DeBorah, and their three children, Marc, Christy and Kyra.
