Glock 23 Binary Trigger - SHOT Show Range Day was all buzz about the Franklin Armory mic dropped. They unveiled a Glock binary trigger. Yes, you read that correctly. A pull/release trigger was created for use with a Glock. We took a closer look at the show floor and shot at the range day.
When Franklin Armory came out with their binary trigger, it was always a dream to have one for a Glock. Until now, it seemed that it was not possible. Well, the engineers at Franklin Armory did. Life finds a way. The Glock binary trigger is called the G-S173.

Franklin Armory will make its own Glock binary trigger for the Glock 17, but it won't be a simple trigger swap. To have a Glock binary trigger, they performed some sorcery with the slide to work with the trigger. So when you buy a Glock rail, it will come with a slide and trigger. You must supply your own barrel, frame and recoil spring.

You can see that the Glock rail slide is not the same as an OEM Glock 17 slide. There are cuts in the slide to accommodate the mag.
Just like other binary triggers, the Glock binary trigger will have a selector switch. It is a rotary selector on the left side of the slide. Switch it to one shot. Turn it down to a binary pull/release mode.
Franklin Armory had two prototypes on hand. The one below is the closest looking prototype with the optics cut off.
Below is the other prototype. They are not sure if they will offer optical cut or not, they are still deciding. I hope they do. They are also exploring options with slide cuts.

I also shot on Range Day. I found the trigger a little different than what I'm used to. But it works. I also filmed the slow motion of the trigger up close to see how it moves when manipulated in binary mode. There are some interesting things I learned about this high speed trigger.
If you watch the slow motion footage closely, you can see that the trigger resets to a two-stage release. He moves forward about halfway and the striker is released to fire the next round. Then, when the slide finishes alternating, the trigger is pushed forward to its final position where the trigger is pulled back for the next shot.
Franklin Armory plans to sell the Glock G-S173 rail for $899. While some may have sticker shock, remember that a regular rail trigger is around $300 and the HK rail trigger it's $700. That makes the slide just $199 additional. You still need to supply your own barrel and recoil spring. They are planning a second quarter release date.
