Volodymyr Zelensky has made an impassioned appeal this week for 'weapon, weapon, weapon' to help repel the Russian onslaught.
Zelensky Asks For S 300s
When addressing US lawmakers last month, the Ukrainian president referred to the S-300 as he pleaded for a defense system that would allow Ukraine to 'close the skies' to fighter jets and Kremlin rockets.
“I can confirm that Slovakia has donated S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine in response to its request to help defend itself against armed aggression from the Russian Federation,” Prime Minister Eduard Heger said today.
It came as Russia carried out another savage attack today that killed at least 39 civilians evacuating, including four children, at a railway station in eastern Ukraine.
Russian forces have now withdrawn from major central cities and are refocusing their efforts on Donbass.

While Ukraine effectively suppresses Russian air forces in close combat, officials in Washington are preparing Ukraine to have systems capable of attacking attack aircraft from much greater ranges.
According to military sources, the system is a Soviet/Russian S-300, capable of detecting, tracking and firing with fully automated ground-based radar and missile launchers, much like the US-made Patriot system. Many air threats come from a great distance.
Ukraine already knows how to operate the S-300, and the United States and some NATO countries have systems or parts that supply Ukraine.
Russia Crisis Military Assessment: How Ukraine Can Take The Fight To Russia
Slovakia, one of three NATO countries that possess the S-300 missile defense system, has agreed to supply the defense system.
It works through a long-range surveillance radar system that tracks objects within 300 km and relays information to the command vehicle for target selection.
Within 5 minutes of stopping, separate projectiles can be prepared to fire 12 missiles simultaneously, hitting up to 6 targets.
"The contribution of the system does not mean that the Slovak Republic has become part of the armed conflict in Ukraine," he said.

He added that Slovakia's defenses would be 'bolstered in the coming days by additional missile defenses from our allies'.

The delivery comes two weeks after Russia announced it would attack the supply chain of the S-300 air defense system.
Sergei Lavrov warned that Moscow would "not allow" the transfer of missiles it deemed "legitimate targets".

At the time, Bratislava said it would supply Ukraine with Russian-made anti-aircraft missile systems in exchange for a replacement system to avoid NATO security vulnerabilities.
Heger believes that Slovakia is providing a defense system "to Ukraine and its innocent citizens" and that this will help save as many innocent Ukrainian lives as possible.

The transfer was interpreted as a gift agreed upon by NATO allies, raising fears that the transatlantic bloc could become embroiled in Russia's war in Ukraine, despite sitting on the sidelines for more than a month.
NATO leaders have so far delivered anti-tank and anti-passive missiles, small arms and protective equipment to Ukraine, but no heavy armor or fighters.

"You can be sure that the Czech Republic is helping Ukraine as much as possible and will continue to provide light and heavy military equipment," Czech Defense Minister Yana Chernotsova told parliament.
She declined to give details of the transfer, but came after Zelensky requested armor, fighter jets and other military equipment from NATO at a March 24 summit in Brussels.

According to a senior Polish official, Ukraine is burning as much weapons as it receives a week, and Kyiv's eastern neighbors are concerned about meeting demand, the Wall Street Journal reported.

In Kramatorsk on Friday, graphic images show corpses strewn on the floor among luggage and strollers outside the city's crowded train station. Some were in green body bags, while other photos showed smoke billowing from the building as firefighters rushed to the scene.
A fragment of a large rocket lies in the grass outside the station. The side of the case is marked with a white Russian inscription that reads 'For (our) children'. It is believed to be the result of a Russian propaganda and brainwashing campaign that led the military to believe that Ukraine was perpetrating atrocities in the east.
Military commentators said the missiles used in the attack were Soviet-era Tochka U missiles with an accuracy of 200 to 500 feet. The station is in the center of Kramatorsk, with a population of over 150,000. Russia and Ukraine are still using missiles and withdrawals will be known.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took to Instagram to criticize the attack and confirm reports of casualties. He said, '[Russian forces] are ruthlessly exterminating civilians. This is an evil that knows no bounds. I will never stop unless I am punished,” he wrote. There were no Ukrainian soldiers at the station when it was attacked.
