CAMP CHEIK OSMAN, Djibouti - The Djiboutian Armed Forces, also known as the Army Aérienne du Djibouti (FAD), completed their final test on May 16 and graduated from the Area. Logistics Training on May 19, 2016.
Five months of training with the U.S. Border Patrol taught FAD skills needed for their new dispatch company.
Admiral Daniel Samuelson, the RAF's head of training, said: "Before they started it was not there. Delivery". "In the past (training programs) we had very little knowledge of support services and logistics operations, so we started from zero or less."
Djibouti's 'military Base' Diplomacy
About 90 FAD staff members have completed three levels of training. Officers and non-commissioned officers were trained in basic transportation, economic, security and maintenance tasks in the first phase, said US Staff Sgt. Richard Keaton, RAF instructor. In the second phase, soldiers had the same training as SNCOs and officers, but they were also trained in marksmanship, sniper and demolition operations, and heavy weapons.
Keaton said: "Part three brought together the seniors and non-commissioned officers to bring together everything they've done over the past five months for a final act. Or try."
Their final tests involved driving on two roads, testing their performance in a variety of situations, including road closures, explosives detection, regenerating vehicles, ambulances, and medical emergencies.
"Now there is significant progress, it is a capable force and they have grown from one thing to another that they can take to Somalia," Samuelson said.

"I am now a better soldier from this training because we learned a lot, we didn't know anything before (the class)," said the WADam FAD student. "And now we can do a lot of things that we didn't know before."
"(The training) helps the people of Djibouti to grow as soldiers by helping them prepare for future missions in Somalia or wherever the African Union wants to send them," said Keaton. "Preparing them and being ready to deal with what they're going through and help them survive." 1/6 Show Image + Hide Text - U.S. Staff Sgt.
