Undoubtedly one of the most instantly recognizable aircraft of World War II, the Junkers Ju-87 Stuka may not have been the most effective attack aircraft to see combat during the conflict, but it was certainly one of the most feared. Capable of providing strategic and precision bombing support to the Wehrmacht's ground units, the squadron heralded the coming of war and was, therefore, specifically designed to strike fear and confusion into enemy forces and a terrified population at large. Attaching a siren, known as the "Jericho Horn" to one of the undercarriages on the Stuka airframe, just added to the fame of this aircraft, with its distinctive bulbous wings representing the fearsome appearance of the Blitzkrieg! Although the Stuka was considered vulnerable to modern RAF fighters during the Battle of Britain, it would play an important role in Operation Barbarossa, as its precision strikes were used to pave the way for ground advance. This 3./StG.2 Stuka wears the standard black/green and dark green over light blue camouflage, but winter patches are heavily applied to give it extra protection when operating in winter conditions. It also features an artistic representation of the open mouth above and above the air cooler, referred to as the "ghost bone", making this one of the most distinctive Stukas serving on the Eastern Front.
